One of the first things you’ll notice is how clunky and ugly this site looks. The design feels like something out of 1998! And before you say anything about how I’m being too harsh – have you seen what pops up when you click on this website? It’s full of low-quality ads and pictures screaming at you. Ugh, it makes me want to vomit!
While there are a few nice touches here, (in fact, there are no ads) the overall impression given off by the proximate universe seems lazy and uninventive. But don’t worry, clicking around will lead you right where you need to go — or so I thought until I spent my time trying to log in unsuccessfully for five minutes while watching my mouse cursor move back and forth between the login screen and error message again.
Entering into the web platform made it clear that VBulletin was very outdated. In its heyday, this style was very popular among forums, but now it just looks sloppy and unorganized – much like many other sites looking to replicate 1990s website formatting.
A large part of what bothers me about this site is not just the unattractive layout – but also how difficult it can be for first-time visitors to find where everything is located. It took me some time to realize what section I wanted because of how cluttered the homepage seemed.
What’s even more perplexing is that most threads were from today – making me question why there wasn’t a more active user base. After reading about the organization on their About Us page, I discovered that there are over two hundred thousand members signed up here, with five million threads to go along with them as well.
